Legal Background
The Hon'ble Supreme Court of India (2011) ruled that education is not categorized as a "service" under the Consumer Protection Act. This means that parents and students may not always be able to seek redress through consumer courts for fee-related grievances. However, certain state consumer commissions (such as Maharashtra) have, in specific cases, allowed exceptions.
Our Business Model
As a K-12 educational institution, Sreejan Academy provides academic programs on an annual or term basis rather than as one-time consumable services. Once a student is enrolled:
- Faculty allocation and classroom planning are finalized in advance.
- Infrastructure, facilities, and learning resources are committed for the entire academic session.
- Operational costs are incurred regardless of student withdrawal or transfer.
Because of these factors, a standard refund or cancellation policy (as found in consumer products or services) does not apply in the context of school education.
Refund Policy
- Registration and Admission Fees are non-refundable under all circumstances.
- Tuition fees, once paid, are allocated towards academic delivery and cannot be refunded.
- In case of withdrawal before the academic year begins, only specific charges (if any) may be considered for partial adjustment at the discretion of the management.
- Hostel and Transport fees may be refunded on a pro-rata basis if the withdrawal request is received before commencement of the service period.
Cancellation Policy
- Withdrawal of admission requires a minimum one-month prior written notice.
- Failure to provide notice will result in liability for the subsequent term's fees.
- No refunds will be processed once the academic session has commenced, except under extraordinary circumstances approved by the School Management.
